I had a 7600, basically the same rifle in 308 Rem. It's the only rifle I ever regretted selling. Get it repaired and I think you will like it. Or if you're thinking tactical, to go with the 10 round...

I've seen some holster designs that seem designed to have the stap released by the trigger finger. I have a Bianchi X-15 shoulder holster for my 1911 that works very well when used this way.
