I too did basic at Ft. Leonard Wood with the M 14 in 1965. Got my invitation from LBJ a week after graduation at Georgia. I wasn't issued an M 16 until 1967 with 17th Arty.

Check out the Sadlak scope mount. It's a little pricey, but you won't regret it a bit. My Springfield mount finally went into the trash a couple of years ago.

I have used IMR 4895 for the last 35 plus years in all rifle ammo. I load .308, 30-06 and .444 Marlin with it and get excellent results especially since I also am loading for M1A and m1 Garand. ...

Fort Jackson, S. C. shot it for qualification and then within a week or so was switched to the M14 shich i always loved and wanted. I have three of them now.
