You don't need a lot of wad pressure. I have a bout 10 lbs. Your final crimp die needs to be lowered. Federal hulls are straight wall and AA's are tapered base. They use different wads also.

lyman makes a mould for 20 ga. slugs, they look like extra large pellet rifle pellets. I load them with Claybuster wads and IMR SR4756 24 grs. of powder and low brass Rem hulls with a fold crimp....

I have one of the earliest 45/70's with hand checkered stock and match grade barrel. It shoots extremely well and it does have some serious recoil with hot loads. Never a problem with it.

What ammo were you using? I have had jam problems with ammo that has a waxy coating on the bullet.. CCI and bulk Federals seem the work fine in my 22's.
