Re: Winchester spring cover hitting carrier
I found that the carrier "fingers" were bent up. Straightened the carrier and checked it with a straight edge. Took the spring cover off again and filed the bottom edge and gave it a bevel. It...

Re: Winchester spring cover hitting carrier
I had the cover out yesterday and the carrier goes to the same position with the spring cover out. The problem is when the action is closed and you push the cover in to load the rifle it is hitting...

Re: Winchester spring cover hitting carrier
This is a 1894 Winchester 32 WS made in 1909. The spring cover is not hitting the carrier and seems to fit the opening ok. The backside of the cover only has a rib in the middle. What is the...

Re: Sawback bayonet id
I'm trying to find out if he still has it. I remember the blade was bright metal but not chromed, looked like stainless or the good nickel steel. The scabbard was bare bright metal also. Only...

Re: Blanks for the M1 Garand
I've used 10 grains of Unique and filled up the case with cornmeal and sealed the neck with hot glue. These loads were fired in a M1917 Eddystone. Don't know if a case without a point will function...

Sawback bayonet id
My brother picked up in a second hand store several years ago a sawback bayonet. We used it for clearing brush when camping etc. The bayo and scabbard were metal and appeared to be nickle steel or...

Re: Model 1894 Saddle Ring hole thread pitch
Got the tap and die today and yes, old threads and new threads don't work together. The base hole diameter in the action is smaller than the ring stud root diameter. The threads are 1/4" x 30 but...

Re: Model 1894 Saddle Ring hole thread pitch
I have a thread pitch gage from my tap set. Really hard to tell if it is 30tpi or 32 tpi because the stud is so short. I ordered a 1/4" x 30 tap and die from Brownells so I will get it to fit!!!!

Re: Model 1894 Saddle Ring hole thread pitch
I got a new saddle ring assy for this old Winchester but it won't thread in much. Trys to start but won't go far. It measures 1/4" and the thread appears to be 30 TPI. Threads in the action look...

Re: Pulled 30-30 bullet-170 g BTFP?
The FTX bullets put good use to aerodynamics in the 30-30, but this 170 grain boat tail flat point is like racing a school bus in NASCAR. I checked my old books and could not find a listing.
Mopar...

Pulled 30-30 bullet-170 g BTFP?
I was given a suitcase of old ammo and brass and I found 5 30-30 cases that were duds. Pulled the bullets on them and 3 looked like they had wet powder and 2 were empty. The empties had 170 grain...

Re: Iver Johnson Model 1900 Target
If the barrel was shortened that might explain why there is no caliber lettering on the barrel. Someone went to a lot of work to shorten the barrel, would have fooled me. Took the hammer and...

Post '64 model 94s frame metal does not blue well. They were cast iron plated and then the plated metal was blued. It does not hold up very well.

Iver Johnson Model 1900 Target
I had a I.J. Model 1900 Target revolver given to me. It has a 2-3/4"barrel, not marked for caliber but looks like .22. 9 round cylinder, 16625 stamped on the trigger guard and C16625 stamped on the...
