Leave the grip safety out and try and insert the thumb safety while looking in thru the opening. You might be running into the side of the sear if the disconnector, sear, hammer relationship is not...

These short 1911's come with an Extended Ejector to get the brass out of the action quickly. I have had to adjust quite a few of them for this problem.
It is actually an easy fix.

I have a V-16 exactly like that and Springfield did an excellent job of making it tight and accurate. I tried a shock buffer in it and it was so tight the slide and barrel would not lock up. Shock...
