I agree that heat treating carbon steel can be done at home. I have made and heat treated thousands of springs, many knives, stamps, and other parts.

Re: New Life for Top-Break Revolvers?
Interesting concept. Very bad idea.
You will need to know the exact makeup of the metal(s). Then, you will need a very accurate heat treating oven along with the proper quenchant(s).
And, you will...

Re: It's a CANNON!!!
I see a lot wrong with this!
Surely, you aren't using the powder from the .22s? It looks like it. Muzzle loaders should use black powder or equivalent only!
And the little gun is seriously...

Re: KKW Starter Pistol
Not a starter pistol.
Made to shoot low powered rimfire ammunition-probably 6mm.
Is/was the bore rifled?

FIE/Bronco/Bauer, and maybe several other names. Very inexpensive guns sold in the 1960s.

Re: 1947 bernardelli .25 vest pocket
Your VP was an improved copy of the Walther model 9. Importation into the US ceased in 1968.
These very fine guns are one of the smallest .25s made. The gun was also made in .22 short, and .22 long...

Re: Colt DA 38
Before you shoot it, you'll have to find some .38 long Colt ammunition.

Re: Colt DA 38
The gun is chambered for .38 Colt long, not .38 S&W. .38 long is an obsolete cartridge.
Rebluing it will ruin any collector value it may have.

Re: CCI CB Longs
Interesting! I had to shoot a rat near my shop, and I grabbed a Long CB-thinking it was the same as the short version. It was quite a bit louder than the CB shorts out of a 19" bbl. rifle.

Re: Help - Need to id Colt 45 SAA
It's actually a very bad rebluing job. All the crisp edges are rounded and the screw holes are slurred.
The frame was color case-hardened originally.

Re: Colt 38 Super & +P ammo
All modern .38 Super ammunition is marked "+P". Your gun will be fine with it.
The 70s series headspaced on the rim, I believe.

Re: FI Model D .380
Very possible. The model is engraved on a pantograph engraver, rather than stamped.
The markings are Spanish proof marks. Don't know what 24D is.

Re: J. Stevens Pistol/Shotgun
If you get rid of the barrel, the gun is not illegal. Replacing the barrel with a rifled barrel will make the gun legal.
You can also get rid of the barrel, apply for an NFA tax stamp to make an AOW...

I don't make firing pins for striker-fired pistols.

Re: safe for modern ammo ?
I doubt the gun has 3" chambers-even if 3" shells fit. Don't do it!
It possibly has 2-1/2" chambers. You need to have it checked by a competent gunsmith.

Re: unscrewing locktite screws
Thread adhesives break down at around 300 degrees. This is not hot enough to affect the metal heat treat. Heat until the adhesive breaks loose, then stop.
