Default Re: which caliber for all around use?

[QUOTE=hunter29180;1000693]for you maybe it is..but thought we were talking SD in a house..least I was..then while the 12 does have a better range and a bigger pattern and will go through several walls as well...the .410 has a shorter range a smaller pattern and wont go through the walls as easy. but WAIT what are the common SD ranges in a house at night? 40 yds? big house there FELLA! na think its more like say 15 FEET 20 max? usually in a hallway? with your kids behind that wall...yep think I will stick with my .410! go go ahead with your cannon of a 12 and take out the walls on both sides of the hall..as well as 1/2 of the rooms to each side....yep!

QUOTE]

Uh, sorry, but the .410 and the 12 guage will do the same thing....NEITHER will penetrate a wall with birdshot, BOTH will penetrate a wall at 15 feet with buck or slugs...

The ONLY difference is the .410 will pentrate the wall with 3 pellets of oo and the 12 will do it with 9.....and 4/5s oz slug vs 1 oz of the 12....

There is NO difference between the "power" (fps) of a .410 or a 12 at the muzzle or at 30 yds...the only difference is the EJECTA...whether it be birdshot, buck, or slug....

No matter the guage, EACH pellet of the bird or buck will be hitting with the same power at any range...

The only difference, is the bigger the guage, the DENSER the pattern with more pellets...

And with slugs, the heavier the guage, the heavier the slug....THERE is the only difference in range or penetration between shotgun guages.

But bottom line, an individual 00 buck pellet hitting at 20 feet hits with the SAME power no matter what guage it came out of...the difference is the number of pellets you will hit him with....
