With 69 gr hpbt match ammo and a scope, they will hit you more often at 400 yds than they will miss. They have about twice the range and effectiveness of the 30 Carbine and ball ammo. Audie Murphy and many other very experienced combat vets preferred the carbine to the Garand. They new that the fatigue of lugging around the extra 10 lbs of the Garand and its ammo killed many a man. He'd get too tired to watch for mines or booby traps or snipers. He'd be too slow to respond to an attack, etc. Range and power are only part of the combat rifle requirements.
