Re: We are a REPUBLIC, NOT A DEMOCRACY.....
In actuality, "Democracy" is the rule of the minority.........because the 'majority' are so divergent in their objectives........America is, foremost and ultimately, the bastion of the freethinker, the explorer, the risk-taker, and the pioneer. IOW, the ultimate 'freedom' - the freedom to fail......
Increasingly, we've become a 'slave society', where the masses are content - nay demand - government solve all their personal problems and protect them from failure. Yet these same 'citizens' retain a reverant awe of one American more characterized by failure than success - Abraham Lincoln. IMO, its this dichotomy driving the increasingly chaotic of politics in America today.
In the Sixties the NE Liberal Elite supported the "Great Society", - a thinly disguised revisit of the 19th century 'white man's burden' - successfully achieving its objective of destroying the black family. Beginning in the Eighties, the political mantra was "racism" even even as the changing social ethos didn't welcomed self-determinant blacks, but challenged their thinking as whole individuals. But throughout this evolution one side of the political establishment continued to perceive these emerging self-determinant minorities as a threat and endorsed defining them in a variety of pejorative - if more obteuse - terms.
We are a bi-cameral system. Until both sides desist from the politics of peddeling the 'victimization' of the various minority and voting bloc groups we can't have a working republic. Nor can that republic emerge or prosper until and unless their vote is secured by whatever force the situation demands. >MW
