I've found that the beavertail on my semiautomatics pounds the thumb-knuckle too much with a one handed grip, though that's my preference as well. So I use pretty much the same as with a revolver, left thumb over the right thumb and pressing it downward. I don't like it, but it keeps my knuckle from getting bloody.
