Re: Full lenght guide rod, pros/cons?
I bought an Auto Ordinance 1911 Gov't in the 90's and it would jam in every conceivable way. I brought it to a decent smith in my area and told him I wanted it reliable and to do what he could for accuracy. He put in a match grade BBL, full length guide rod, polished the feed ramp, tightened it up some and since then the only issues I have had were on some lead reloads that I didn't seat the bullet properly. Once I did they fed as just fine.
The guide rod is held in by a piece that requires an allen wrench to remove so field stripping requires a wrench but other than that I have no issues with it.
