When I was a child, there was no such thing as ADD or ADHD.
Back then, you'd simply get a hack administered by the VP in the boiler room.
Lesson learned.
I recall sitting in a boring class one day that overlooked the football/track field. It was a nice day, and I was staring out the window. Something caught my hair, and a piece of chalk shattered against the window.
It was the last time I didn't 'appear' to be paying attention.
We've gone from discipline to drugs, and folks wonder why we're so screwed up.
