Re: Vietnam Photographs
[FONT="Arial"][SIZE="2"]Lots of replies. 199er, I hear you. It took me two tries, but on the second marriage, I got me a good one. Snakedriver......."nuttier than squirrel turds", a perfect description of some people.
The guys in our group without photos are all guys we knew served in our unit. The only guy we ferretted out was only partially a liar. He was a USN PBR crewman; (we let Navy guys join too, but not many do), but he "cut a wide swath", and sounded like a phony to many of us. He claimed to be in the Navy 4 years, then finished out his military career in the Army, as a helo pilot.
For any of you having doubts about another veterans status, the folks at the POW Network do an outstanding job of locating records to establish anyones status in the military. They work for free, but accept donations......strictly a Mom & Pop operation.
I sent copies of the more "John Wayne" slanted tales from this guy to the POW network, and they too, thought they rang untrue. Four days later, I had the guys records in my hand. He had been in a PBR unit in RVN, but had lied about being a rotary wing pilot in the Army......he had zero flight hours, not even as a crewman.
When confronted with the facts, the guy went ballistic, threatening to sue me, and to sue the site "owner" of our group, then he quit......that was the last we heard from him.
I hope this post doesn't get put into another Forum for being off-topic, but according to a piece I read recently, that seven out of eight Vietnam veterans today are bogus phonies. Everyone in this group.......whether you're a veteran or not, should strive to expose those that stand on the backs of dead men, to pump up their deflated egos.
ofitg, that's terrible......but at least it wasn't you onboard that aircraft.
