Vlad - It's too late for this finance deal, but the advice I gave my son is to get a credit card in your name. Get one that pays you cash back or points for something you use (I prefer cash back). Then use the card instead of a debit card and pay the balance in full each month. It will quickly build your credit rating, give you an emergency source of cash should you have a breakdown on the road somewhere, and give you a small discount on your purchases.
If you don't trust your spending with a credit card, get a check ledger booklet and log each transaction like you would a check book.
