Absolutely, Tim -
Some years ago Omni magazine carried an article entitled "When God Plays Dice With the Universe: Connoisseurs of Chaos." The title of this article was based upon a statement once made by Albert Einstein. He was dealing with Quantum theory, and a little thing called the 'uncertainty principle'. The adherents of this theory claim that many things in the universe are not fixed until some human observer checks them.
Schrodinger described this phenomenon this way. Imagine a box with a cat inside. There is no way to tell if the cat was alive or dead without opening the box and looking. According to the uncertainty principle, the cat inside is neither dead nor alive, but in some in-between state of existence until a person opens the box to take a look, and that action determines if the cat was dead or alive! To this very odd belief, Einstein said "God does not play dice with the universe", meaning that things WERE fixed, and man's checking them had nothing to do with it.
The article in Omni described a different field of scientific inquiry called Chaos Theory. The basic premise of this theory is that there is a randomness built into the universe. Not everything is as orderly or as mechanistic as has been assumed. Chance is a part of the universe and even if we had all the data, we could not always predict the outcome.
Whether the connoisseurs of chaos or the uncertainty principle adherants are right or not, certainly God does not play dice with the universe. He rules it.
The Word of God tells us of the TRUTH, as opposed to these man made theories:
2 Chronicles 20:5-6 (KJV);
"And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, and said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?"
May the God who does not play dice with the universe bless each one of you -
