Over the many long years I have been around, conservative Republicans have always been the law and order folks. Democrats have long been mocked for being "soft on crime." Conservative and Liberal do not necessarily mean Republican and Democrat, respectively. there are Liberal Republicans(such as Gingrich, Romney, etc.), and there are Conservative Democrats(such as... hm, can't think of any off the top of my head, but they're out there!).
Conservative and Liberal are your political and moral views.
Republican and Democrat are Party affiliations.
so please don't refer to Gingrich and the GOP as Conservative.
