If you need more torque/power put a standard shift rear-end behind 'em.
I used to have an International pickup (304 V8) with standard transmission when I found a junked truck like mine with an automatic transmission in it. Since I worked at an automatic transmission shop I rebuilt the tranny with a shift kit and put in my truck.
Whooweee... talk about a peppy truck.
