Sugar beets? For people food? My understanding has always been that sugar beets, like sugar cane, is not so much "eaten as is" but is processed into sugar.
Yes, folks eat beets, but beets, like come in the can down at the store, are not sugar beets. Different strain.

I don't know if this is true, but read many years back where this kid planted sugar beets, and when he thinned 'em he threw the thinnings to the hogs. Said that the pork that year was uncommonly sweet.
Since I presume your plan it to shoot a deer or twenty, and stick 'em in the freezer, I'd go with the sugar beets.
