Israel has atomic weapons. To date, we don't think Iran has nuclear capabilities yet unless they are getting them from other sources. Israel would be stupid to engage in a ground war with Iran. A well planned surprise nuclear attack taking out the government, nuclear facilities and as much military as as they can and inflicting massive civilian casualties with a follow-up blockade to prevent medical or humanitarian intervention would cool Iran's jets and be an example to the US of how to fight a war as if your life depends on it because in Israel's case, it does. They cannot afford a war of attrition!
