The Remington 700 .270 Caliber rifle has been the rifle I own with the most recoil. Highest caliber I own as well

I've got the 700BDL in .270 Win and a fine looking rifle.
I've shot alot of firearms with alot of recoil but the one I have that has the most recoil now, is the Savage 110 in 7mm MAG.

It is not so much how hard any arm recoils (measured in foot-pounds of ballistic energy) but how fast it recoils.
The .303 British "jungle carbine" does not kick very hard; but it kicks quite quickly. Thus, many shooters find it very unpleasant to shoot. The same can be said of 12 gauge single barrel Russian shotguns, made at Izvesk, bored about 0.715" and choked extra full (0.394"). |

CZ 550 Safari, European stock, 416 Rigby.
I've shot a 460 Weatherby, and that kicks, but the CZ kicked worse. I've shot a Barret 50BMG, but between the muzzle break and the shock absorber, it kicked less than the Weatherby.

Mine was on a Huey pedestal (no kick).
![]() 7.35 Carcano. After four shots, I didn't want anymore! After that, I wore a shooting jacket.

Mine is the .577 Synder-Enfield that I have. A few rounds of it and I am done. Still have a partial box of the rounds I bought when I got the weapon.

Hardest hitting rifle??? Ether a 45/70 marlin loaded with a 400gr at 2050fps or a old springfield 12ga full choke shooting 3" #1 buck shot, no recoil pad. Both hurt egual amounts. Way more fun watching others shoot them.

as a youth I frequented Westridge Sporting Goods in Casper, WY. Hanging high on the wall was what I thought was a long barreled, exposed hammer shotgun. When in fact it was a .470 Nitro double rifle. I do not remember the maker. I was 16 and not afraid of anything and I wanted to shoot it!!! The owner finally relented and we met out on the prairie to shoot the thing. One hammer was inop so I loaded only one side. @*#&$@$ DAMN THAT HURT!!! then every bit of my body went numb. I'm sure it was the source of many laughs at the store

The absolute hardest kicking rifle I ever shot was a custom rifle built in .510 Wells, the 510 Wells is a .460 Weatherby necked-up to 50 caliber, the guy I was in school with was a left handed Norwegian.. he wanted this to take back to Norway to shoot roe deer! OMG, the rifle was stocked in a MacMillan with 2 recoil lugs and it eventually caused stock damage. I've shot tons of rifles, shotguns and drillings... this rifle would crack your neck! We filled a pumpkin with water and ONE shot with a lead bullet vaporized it.... Oh yeah, the worst was shooting the solid monolith bullet...check out the .510 Wells on your favorite search engine....

I don't know what the load was but it was a Siamese Mauser shooting very hot loaded 45-70's. A 450 Marlin is a pussycat compared to it. Three rounds and I had all I wanted. Actually one was more than I wanted but I had to be macho and do two more..........It's hard to be macho with your eyes tearing up.

My Rem 700 BDL 30/06 with hot 180gr loads shot off rests on bench. The next worst is my bud's Win 70 in 270. I don't know what it is about those two calibers but I seem to be sensitive to them. My bro's Ruger No. 1 in 458 Win Mag doesn't punch nearly as hard as it gives a good firm shove. The '06 and 270 are more like a sharp quick jab. My Binelli R1 in 300 Win Mag is actually comfortable, I guess due to the gas action and the stock conformation. Go figure.

I don't know what it is about the .270's mentioned, but my Hawkeye .270 ultra light feels softer than the 12 gauge snaketamer I mentioned above. But I'm not botherd by shooting 30-06 eather.

For Milsurp its a Steyr M95 Cavalry Carbine in 8x56RH hands down.
I fired a .458 Win Mag once that pushed me quite a bit off hand but I knew the guys were playing a trick on me when they said it was an '06 and handed it to me "ready to fire" but I peeked at the bore and figured out the joke before I shot it...but one of our buddies that was in the outhouse during the preliminaries and my shot didn't and just casually touched one off....and got a helluva "scope bite" over his glasses that bled like heck for a while ![]() ![]() ![]() But still, shoot 20 or 30 rounds of 12 guage 1 oz deer slugs from a bench rest trying to find the best load for your tube and you will FEEL it for quite a while after... And then there was the time I for a bet I tried to show off the "no disconnector" feature on the '97 where with birdshot you can empty all 6 shots in like 2 seconds if you hold the trigger back and pump like heck, the last one going off before the first empty hits the ground, but on a dare this time with deer slugs offhand...I only got three off before I stopped in about 1.5 seconds...the first pretty normal, the second the stock was slipping off the shoulder, and on the third the stock and receiver walloped me in the side of my face ![]() I got home from the range that day and my wife asked me if I was in a bar fight ![]()

I used to have a H&R pardner 12 guage. If you load it with 00 buck, it would stand straight up on recoil. If you want to watch some people make a fool of themselves shooting, go to youtube, and pull up the .577 t-rex videos and watch them. They show a bunch of middle eastern folks trying to handle it and getting thrown around.
