Any Korea era rifle experts out there?
Hi. As a gift I just received a new rifle my Grandpa brought back from Korea. The gun is rich with history, from taking the gun from a P.O.W. to bringing it back into the states in parts. The only problem is I know next to nothing about these types of rifles. I would love if someone could point me in the right direction. Here are some basics about the gun:
-Date marked 1945 -Russian Logo -Caliber unknown, guessing .30 cal -Came with bayonet I also took some pictures: http://imgur.com/a/t73QN#0 This rifle means a lot to my Grandpa and I would love to be able to restore her to her former glory. Any tips/advice would be appreciated! |

Well, your link goes nowhere, but if he brought it back from Korea, and it's Russian marked, then it's most likely either an SKS

I am getting the same thing, Jack.
TP90, first of all, welcome the the forum. Second, why don't you try to post some pictures directly into your post by using the Go Advanced button and then Manage Attachments button. Once you get there, it should be fairly easy to figure the rest.

nth Koreans used a heap of rifles , chinese and soviet ,, but if marked with soviet symbol it'd have to be either SKS or mosin ... and many mosins where modified for the smaller troops and so are for some reason worth less than regular mosins but if it is a factory modded one , hold it as that attitude is changing and being reflected in sale values
until its seen though ... |

mosin nagant M91/30 does not look like a "lightening" looks like its been "sporterised"

Isn't that a model 44? With the folding bayonet (you can see the lug where it goes). Doesn't look, to me, like the barrel's been cut. Just the wood.
