My HD Military hammer is following the slide home after firing. I can manually cock hammer and fire but have to cock hammer after each shot. If I manually pull slide to rear hard and slow hammer stays cocked. Any ideas on how to fix this problem.

Sounds like worn sear engagement.

Worn sear engagement on either the hammer or sear, or a weak sear spring. No way to tell from here.

Just bought this gun and had never had high standard before. Sear pin had slide out just a little. Was like that when I got gun. Tapped it in and works great now.
Thanks, Sam |

Gotta admit, I didn't think of that. But I'm glad the gun works OK now.

My HD will sometimes not fire. Maybe once in every five shots. Recocking the hammer and pulling triggr will sometimes fire the round. If it does not fire I eject it. Have replaced the firing pin but the problem continues. Any suggesions.

A lot of things can cause the Hi std pistols to not fire:
A damaged sear might not catch the hammer in recoil and the hammer slips to the safety notch, if so equipped. The sear spring could have lost some of its power and does not allow the sear to engage and catch the hammer in recoil. The ammo is not energetic enough to fully cycle the slide causing the hammer to not fully cock. The disconnector and it spring are misshaped from wear or the spring has lost some of its power to allow it to reset the trigger mechanism. The cartridge is not fully seated in the chamber because it hit the chamber edge and the deformed bullet nose is keeping the cartridge from fully entering the chamber. That does not allow the disconnector to engage the sear. There may be other reasons but each of the above has to be eliminated individually to find the cause of a failure to rife reliably. a trip to a gunsmith might be in order if none of this above makes any sense to you. A High Standard specialist might be a better choice of gunsmith but any educated real gunsmith understands ignition system enough to fix any Hi Std gun with these problems. LDBennett LDBennett |

Thanks LD. After firing the recoil is always great enough to fully cock th hammer for the next round. When you examine the spent casings you see that there is not much of a depression left from the firing pin. Maybe this normal but that is why I replaced it. I can manualy cycle the receiver through a full clip with any problems. Might take to a local gunsmith.
