Two men have been arrested at the University of NSW, in Sydney's east, during a police operation involving armed officers and a helicopter this morning.
They thought they had him cornered, but he seemed to get away

Witnesses have described seeing police in full body kit patrolling in Kensington.
Police said officers from State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad intercepted a car about 7.20am.

Two men, aged 29 and 36, were arrested and taken to Maroubra police station, where they are being questioned.
Police said they also want to talk to three men who ran from the car.
A witness said he had seen a police helicopter overhead, while there was a heavy police presence on the ground.
"There are police everywhere, with their full kit and kaboodle on," he told AAP.
"I'm not sure exactly what's happened, but a woman says she walked into a coffee shop and saw some guy running away jumping fences."
A University of NSW spokeswoman said reports the Kensington campus had been in some kind of "lockdown" were incorrect.
She said police were stopping people from entering the campus at Gate Two, on High Street, while they arrested the two men.
"They were just looking for evidence. There's no lockdown."
A witness said on Twitter that police had towed a "smashed up" Audi from UNSW, while others said it had been rammed into a wall.
A worker on a neighbouring construction site said he saw a man with a backpack run from police.
"They thought they had him cornered, but he seemed to get away," the man told AAP.
Teachers and parents at Our Lady of the Rosary primary school were "on guard" in usually quiet Grosvenor Street.
"It was the full crack squad. A lot of the police had guns and you could only see their eyes," one mother told AAP.

and a siege is happening in sydney too just round from my old place ..

Reports of 'siege' in Bankstown

POLICE have converged on a home in Sydney's south-west after reports a person had been shot.

On arrival police discovered no one had been shot but it is believed a siege situation has now developed.

Ambulances have also been called to be on standby at Jacob St, Bankstown.

The operation began shortly after police were called to the scene at about 1.15pm.
