Default Wildcat 12GA From Hell

I'm visitor here and am posting info
about a wildcat we call 12GA FH(from Hell)
Two others Rob and John, and I over
on AR forums figured out a way to make a hairy
12ga that can be used like the old Paradox 12ga
used in Africa, and still fire shot loads also.
it is still a regular 12ga bore only long chamber.
And has more power and better cases. Problem of
weak cases we solved by putting rim on bmg brass
as shown in following pic; of original bmg case
with rim turned off and threaded for the rims shown.
Also in 1st picture is 3 different slugs in our
long 12GA FH cases. In regular nomenclature it is
a 12ga 3 3/4.In 2nd picture is our case next to
regular plastic case, which can be fired in our
chamber also,.Ed Hubel.

I have a couple loaded cartridges, head stamped 585 Nyati RS that look somewhat similar - but - nothing to shoot them with. I think you're going places I'd rather not go with this - not to say that it wouldn't be fun, but it's like moving up from Black Cat firecrackers to 1/2 lb TNT charges... some degree of danger and what type of alien do you expect to be able to bring down for dinner?

My dad has a rifle similiar to this one chambered in the 585 Nyati. He has taken hippo, elephant and other large african game with it. Its a custom built around a Mauser 98 action 24" barrell. weighs around 13-14 pounds.

Or a locking tripod and a "remote firing device" (string!)

That round looks like something that should be fired from a multi-barreled, hand cranked monster mounted on a wheeled carriage or a foredeck!

And I wonder if S&W will ever come out with a "XXX" frame for it...

It's interesting as heck, and certainly AWESOME...and also would make a GREAT conversation startereven if you WEREN'T at the range...

But I'm CURIOUS....just what USE do you see for it?

Yeah, it would be a HECKUVA "backup" for dangerous game in the bush, but wouldn't a .375 or .416 do it as well and be easier to carry? As well as being more accurate and have more range?

What kind of range/accuracy do you get/expect with it? Is it a 100yd or less gun? Or can it work out to longer ranges?

I'm all FOR "Big old hunks of lead traveling just fast enough to GET there and smash something" but I can't help but think this cartridge would be best named the "12 Overkill."

At our velocities good for 200 yds.And with a pointed
bullet shoot as flat as a 460 Weatherby.
A 730 gr Dixie hardened slug at 2500 sighted
at 140 yds, could be shot without holdover to 200yds.
But heres the deal. For big game, fast big slugs with big
meplats, penetrate and kill the best. And with speed still a
decent midrange(200yds) deer gun, especially in shotgun only
areas, where huge numbers deer are here. Areas where state
game commissions don't want guys shooting with rifles at deer
at 1/4 to a 1/2 mile. Rob can hold 2 inches at 50 yds
offhand with his scoped version.Ed

Good for charging rats with following-I took flatnose
Bridger 750 gr solid banded hollowbase bullet
and shortened the nose. Actually made a slightly rounded
nose solid of 500 gr. With hollowbase it was still
a decent length, at one inch.I got it over
2800 fps, at my moderate pressures.Just
experimenting. Everyones got designs and wants
their ideas for slugs tested, so we do it.Ed.

Here is picture of a brass pointed 12ga bullet
good for long range,
2nd in pic. May work for vicious p-dogs.HahHah.
It is 640 gr and
could be made heavier.Ed.

Shot a 610 grain hollowpoint Dixie hard
slug into 6 gallon sealed pail of water.
Going 2800 fps, and real big hollowpoint.
First pic is pail with crimped on top.
Pail full and has filler spout capped.
Second pic,impact with water atomising,
and pail blowing apart. In the next small
fraction of a second is third after impact
with shelf cleared, the hyrostatic pressure
down, has bent top of steel frame shelf.
Same blast put jug pieces all over.
Got to get a 15 gallon one. Behind
you see my wood bundle backstop...Ed

I picked up a 12ga NEF Ultra Slug gun.
With 24 inch shorty barrel.
Added weight and thumbhole stock.
Gun weighted to 15 lbs so
far. I got 600gr hard slug to
1650-1700 so far, and shoots easy.
Got 1 1/2 inch thick pad.Working up different
loads.Should get over 2000.
Cases eject easy,no resizing needed
on bottom half of case, action opens easy,
no evidence of binding.Started case 3.2 inch,
settled on case length of 3.15-- Chamber being
full size max 12ga size expands top half of case
more than my minimum chamber in Savage does,
so little more effort needed to size. Our case, though many times stronger than regular
12ga cases is thinner at mouth, so that is
why I used tight chamber on Savage.Still
can't get used to mickey mouse short barrel.
Anyone know of a genius who could
make long alloy barrel with pivot mounted?
Cases can be 3 inches on up to
our length, and work.Ed

We got 600 gr slug to 2000 fps in NEF.Used ball
powder load. Case length of maximum 3.07 works.
Can use our case shorter, but load developement harder.
Anyone using our style case should also put in adapter
for shotgun primer. Save a lot of work
beefing up hammer speed and strength.Ed

In a little while I will have a bunch
12ga rim pieces to supply those who can take them and
thread the case themselves.Rims are precision made
and if case has original rim turned down and stub
threaded 5/8 by 24, rims go on easy.Just add
loctite.Ed

hardened cast slug to 2400 plus with 300 gr RL-25.
