I have 2 colt woodsman 22's. One is a 1st series model made in 1936 and the second one is a 3rd series target model made in the 70's. The bolt on each one will not stay open after the last shot is fired from either clip in either gun. The 1936 model is worn but shoots well. the 70's model is in 95 % shape but the bolt closes after the last shot is fired in the clip. I checked some woodsman articles and both clips are the right ones and do not appear to be worn. The only thing that came to mind was that maybe the recoil spring was too strong and would not allow the bolt to open far enough to allow it to catch and stay in the open position. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, how was the problem resolved?

It's not a problem. The Ist series Colt .22 does not have a hold-open. You can lock the slide back but the slide normally closes after the last shot.
