Default Question For Those Owning An Early Marlin 56

I recently purchased a beautiful early Marlin 56. SN M002XX. 24" barrel and steel receiver. The entire rifle is beautiful except for the lever. It looks like the metal was never finished. It's ruff with original bluing. Does anyone else have an early rifle with an lever in ruff condition? The entire lever looks like it was blued right out of the cast without being polished. This was a one owner gun that was purchased new and never touched. It's so hard for me to believe that Marlin would make such a beautiful rifle and place a non finished lever on it.
