Marlin model 60 .22 - The Firearms Forum

Hello all am new here, i bought a Marlin model 60 22 from a pawn shop and it has squirrel on the stock and with a search i found it was made in 1974 i gave $59 for it i think it was a good deal tell me what you guys think. Thanks and Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and welcome to TFF. Everyone needs a model 60. I've dropped thousands of rounds through mine and it eliminates squirrels with efficiency.

You got it for a good price...you'll love it.

Not as many model 60 after-market parts or upgrades available as a 10-22, but for general use, you don't need any. Great all-around plinker and varmint-killer.

If it is decent shape you gat a good deal. I paid $60 for mine and could not be happier with it.

Welcome to The Firearms Forum.

I like the M-60 and still have one.

They are a great 22 rifle. If you got a deal depends on what condition it is in. As Slabsides eluded to, people like them SO MUCH, they can wear parts out, if not taken care of. (properly cleaned) Let us know after you take it to the range.

Welcome Gunguy, yes you made a good deal. If your happy with it! Model 60 man that brings back a lot of memories. My brother and I bought new 60S in 1973/1974. Over the years we might have fired 4 to 5 thousand rounds throught each rifle.We have taken countless rabbits and pheasants etc,and there stil in good shape. Cleaning and mantanice are the key, the only real problem I had was srews and pins on the outside of the rifle. (Around the triger guard and front sight etc etc) I hade to keep them tight and in line on a regular bases. Hope you have a great time with your rifle, and best of luck in the New Year !!!

I purchased mine at K-mart in 1986 and have pushed at least 4,000 rounds and have just done routine cleaning. I have not replaced any part on it due to failure. I did put a Butler Creek synthetic stock on it just to change up the look about 10 years ago and it was on sale for $35! I still have a Tasco 3-9 X 20 TV scope on it and it works fine for me. I do have a second model 60that we bought at a pawn shop and my son shoots it. I just bought him a Bushnell 3-9X32 scope and he needs to now sight it in. We just bought a box 525 bullets and plan on blasting throught them after this damn blizzard in South Dakota gets out of here!

Mine costs that in the late 70s. It was a excellent little .22 rifle that I could nail squirrels all day with over iron sights. You got a cheap classic. TJ

inherited mine, One of my best shooters. I remember grandpa buying it for $69.99 at Service Merchandise. Had the orange sticker on it for years. Wouldn't trade it for a $1,000 bill.

59? chit I will give 70 for it right now! yours still has the 18 round tube on it too. Tehy changed it in 84 i believe to 15 round cause of some silly law in New Jersey.

Yeah, mine has 18. As my cousin says, if you can't hit what you are shooting at with 18, you don't need to have a rifle.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I have the Glenfield model 60, inherited from Dad. I believe it's a 60's model w' the squirrel and 18 shot. I've had no problems until recently and that's actually what brought me to this forum.

It's a very accurate rifle and has served me well till now.

Looks exactly like mine, but the finish was chipping off mine so I stripped it all off. I'm hoping it will look better with a new finish.

yeah i shoot it for the first time yesterday it shot great just had to do a little adjustment on the sights and it shot great

I have the marlin glenfield 60. Great shooter. Likes the better 22 ammo than the bulk box stuff which is really getting bad. The wood is great. For an inexpensive 22 its sure a keeper fer me. Not sure on the born on date but I would not trade it off!
Have a rem 591 bolt 22 thats a real good shooter too.

My Marlin 60 went to youngest son. I felt lonely at the range and out in the country without one, so I had to buy another. Love those rifles.

I'm thinking you'll really enjoy your 60, especially at $59.
