Default would like another .22 that shoots 1" grps

out of the 13 .22 bolt rifles i own, only 2 will consistently shoot ragged hole 1" groups consistently. One is an old Romanian military target rifle with aguila target ammo, the other is a CZ452 varmint in .17Mach2.My other rifles shoot accurately once I've found the ammoo it likes but not the really tight groups I'd like.I realize an Anschutz or some other expensive target rifle would do the job but my resources limit me to the $200-$400 price range. Is there another rifle anyone would recommend either new or used that I might like? I have lots of different brands/types of .22 ammo target and otherwise to experiment with.I'd love to have an old Win.75 or Rem.37 but price and availability probably will prevent this. With my limited budget am i just dreaming or does anyone have suggestions? THANKS, JOE

I got a nice Savage MK II BTVS for about $330 a couple of years ago. It does that well.

Yes. If he bought it new a couple years back... It should.

Im assuming you are shooting @ 100yds? and would like another Bolt rifle...If so, I cant argue with the value, and performance of a Savage Mk II series! I also like the 64's in the Semi auto variety.

Hello,

Another vote for the Savage MkII bull barrel. I've heard, but not confirmed, that the bull barrels are by Anschutz .

You can also do this by modifying a Ruger 10/22 with a target barrel and a bunch of other goodies, but unless you get some deals you'll come in over your target price.

I personally, however, am considering a 10/22 build after having done the bolt action thing.

I have shot Appleseed with both a Ruger 10/22 and Savage MkII BTVS and qualified for the patch with both.

Because of this, I never really considered the bolt action to be a handicap. Your experience may of course vary.

Regards,

Josh

Thanks guys.Lots of praise for the savage mkII BTVS.Is this a thumbhole stock only option?I tried to view it on Able's but sometimes the picture isn't correct.I would like a regular stock and preferrably a varmint barrel like my CZ but I don't know what model# it would be.By the way my range is 65yds give or take. THANKS Joe

Unlikely all your guns are shot out unless you have done something nasty to them. You may be shooting ammo that only your sharp shooting guns like any you will have to switch. What are you shooting, brand, bullet weight, plated/unplated, brand, sub sonic, standard or high velocity? A change in ammo might put your other guns back in the winners circle.

If you don't like the thumbhole model (I dont because I shoot left handed) go with the "BV" model, http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/MARKIIBV

You can see them all at the Savage website, If you dont want wood, there are plenty of plastic models to choose from, the Mk II BV is MY next pruchase,

Here is a package for example, Savage price is $327, so can no doubt be gotten even cheaper, http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/MARKIIFVXP

See all of them here http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/allfirearms

Hit your gun shows up and do some hard looking. I love the the Remington 513T. I have been known to shoot the thumbtacks that hold my target on the board off at 50 yards.

I lucked onto a pre WW2 Mossberg 22 with heavy barrel. Mossberg, the founder was a match shooter and many of his pre WW2 rifles had adjustable triggers, even some of the cheaper models.

You mentioned a CZ Varmint in .17 Mach2, this is what my CZ 22lr is capable of at 50 yds. Most CZ's will do this with the right ammo.

Random pics:

Calm day, Savage MkII

MkII, 100 yards, kept hitting danged limbs! Springtime on my shooting range leads to this...

I have this fetish where I like to precision target shoot with supersonic bulk ammo. It makes MOA shooting a challenge.

This is the level I expect from all my rimfires. The Ruger 10/22 I had, I bought for Appleseed then sold it when I found out how inaccurate they are stock (I did have Tech-Sights on mine).

Regards,

Josh
