I'm new to this site but I have an 8mm Mauser or at least that's what I was told it is. It's been in my family a long time over 75 years and I don't think it's worth much but it has sentimental value. It has 2 triggers and no markings that I can see. I will take pictures and post them as soon as I can. Is there some things that I should be looking for?
Ok I've added some pictures I hope they are sufficient. There are a few numbers but I'm not sure what they mean. If the rifle is of any value I don't want to diminish the value at all. If it's not of value I would like to get it checked by a gunsmith and have site mounts installed and any required modifications. My father told me it was great for long range shooting. As I said previously if it’s nothing special my son and I would like to use it for long range shooting. Thanks for any advice or information.

Very unusual for a mauser not to have any markings at all, unless they have been removed. Need overall pic of gun, close ups of action--may reveal if it was of military orgin and model, pics of any markings, give serial number (use x's to represent last 3 digits if you like). Pics should be sharp and properly exposed.

You probably have a commercial Mauser and the second trigger is a set trigger, meaning when you pull it, ratther than firing the gun it sets the other trigger for a very light let off. If the gun is a commercial Mauser and it is in nice shape it will fetch better than a $1,000.00.
That being said I would like to see some pictures. Ron |

It's a sporterized military rifle with an inexpensive (or handmade) replacement stock. The stepped down barrel is military--probably the original. Looks like a large-ring 98 action. Rear and front sight are add ons. If the barrel is good--not pitted or shot out, it is probably an excellent shooter and worth drilling and tapping for a scope. Have a gunsmith check it out. The sett trigger is an upgrade and it the trigger guard drilled to gain access to an adjustment screw. Looks like markings have been buffed off--which, to me, indicates it was a Mauser military contract rifle. If the serial number is gone, that could be problematic. I the barrel is good, the value on it is probably in the $175-225 range. If it were a commercial rifle, it would be worth considerably more. Good gun to take in the woods on a rainy day.
