270 and 270 WSM bullet weights?

I was told that 130 grains was the perfect balance for a 270 bullet. I have a 270 and a 270 WSM. I got 130 hornady sst for the 270 and 140 gr hornady sst for the WSM. I figured the magnum would do better with the slightly heavier bullet. Am I thinking right? I would be open to other bullet suggestions as well, I am hunting white tail deer. I am using H4831SC powder. and rifle cci primers.
Any suggestions or tips welcome.

Accuracy from the 270 WSM is nothing short of spectacular, my worst loads using 135 SMK's over Magpro only opened up 1/4moa. You'll see super accuracy, and the ability to stone those whitetails right in their tracks with the 140's. I cant speak for the h4831 140's past 200yds, but the WSM never fails to hit your target if you do your part.

Except for the 130gr Barnes TSX, I kinda like 140gr as the typical "compromise" weight in the .270Win.
Can't help ya out with the .270WSM though...I don't load for it.
140 fall right in between the two old traditional .277" weights (130 and 150). A 140 carries energy a bit farther than the 130 and shoots a bit flatter than the 150.

130 or 140 are excellent choices for whitetails. 150s are usually reserved for larger deer like elk, moose, or big mulies and can be a bit overbuilt for smaller whitetails.

No problem with the SSTs here. I like em and use em in the 6.5x55 Swede.
Besides Barnes TSXs, I usually load 140gr Nosler Ballistic Tips for deer loads in dad's .270Win, but the Hornady SSTs pretty much duplicate the Ballistic Tip in performance.

Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate your help. I am now much more confident about my choices. I will be loading up 50 of each. I am going to be in a place where a 300 yard shot may present itself, this is why I stepped up to the WSM last year.

I had mostly hunted oak hills and swamp lines until I started hunting some pine flats last year after seeing about a zillion crossings in the road in a particular spot. a 300 yard shot out of a climber tree stand is not easy, but I think I can make one if needed, I am going to practice a few long shots before gun season comes in.
