Default egyptian ak-47 maadi

My buddy is looking at an egyptian ak-47 maadi. It is the sporterized version with a thumbhole stock. he asked me how they stack up to wasr or the regular russia ak-47. Is this a decent gun? any reviews would be great. what should it cost in very good conditition.

Thanks

from what i know the Maadi is just an Egyptian-made copy of the AKM. I don't think they're all that different. Pretty sure they're still a 7.62x39.

I have a Wasr 10 and its one of my favorite firearms. I don't know anything about the Egyptian made firearm but if you can get a good deal on it and get the same quality of a AK then by all means get the firearm. In the event I only had to leave my home for what ever reason I would grab my AK 47 (WASR 10) first.

look at ak47rifle.com, they have some ak's with thumbhole stocks that are cheap. i think the interarms iac 47 is built in egypt using russian machine tools. good price, nice looking gun in poly or wood. to me, just about all aks shoot the same. you have to look at the finish and the furniture. some aks get beat up in transport and handling. if you have the money, GALIL makes a nice 7.62x39.

I would rate the old Maadi's way above a WASR. They were available in the debanned thumbhole configuration along with the MAK's back in the day. They are far below an Ismash AK. There were issues with loose FSB's back in the day, but overall they are functional rifles. I would buy a MAK-90 before I would buy a Maadi. If the price is right, go ahead and get one.

A few years ago I owned a Maadi. It was my first AK and given to me in trade for some after hours welding training. It did not feed well and I had to do some extensive polishing and shaping of the feed ramp and breech to get it to run. I really did not care about owning an AK so I traded it for a 30-06 which I sold to a friend. I had nothing to compare it to but it did not seem well made - almost cheesy in it's construction.

The Egyptian MAADI AK47 pre'98 imports are second only to the PolyTech Legend in durability and pattern. They were made on Russian tooling to AK standard pattern (meaning all surplus parts interchange) by military personnel in military arsenals.

The MAADI is the AKM version of the Russian AK47.
The PolyTech Legend is the AKS version of the Russian AK47

PolyTechs are king of all AK's one step below a genuine 1950 Russian original AK47.

The Chinese MAK90's of pre-'98 import are also quality AK's like the Egyptian MAADI of same era. Don't mistake the Misr10 (takes only single stack mags) or Misr90 (Chinese&Maadi put together Frankenstein rifles) for the complete Chinese MAK90's. Only problem with the MAK90's is the slanted receiver.

The three rifles mentioned above were manufactured by military personnel in military arsenals of said countries.

All, and I mean ALL current imports today are INFERIOR to the rifles mentioned above. The either have some or all of these problems below:

NON Standard AK pattern- meaning surplus parts are not interchangeable
Made by civilians
Rifles are from kits that are put together by weekend garage armorers
Inferior magazine lock-up due to missing dimples in receiver
Modified to appear AK pattern from a completely different design such as single stack mags or trigger placement.
Downright dangerous workmanship-risk to safety when shooting
etc.

You want an AK47? Then pay the bucks for a PolyTech, MAADI, or MAK90 from pre-'98.

I'd base it all on whether it has a stamped or milled receiver. Plan on doing some work on most AKS to make them smooth.

So I own a norinco ak47 and a Egyptian maadi imported by century arms. Listen I've been told how crappy these maadis were from a few people but after I field stripped it, it looked solid, matching numbers, g2 trigger, bore looked good and there was no loose parts and mag wasn't loose at all. The real test was when I shot it, my norinco nhm 91 outshot my friends saiga at the range so I know what a good ak47 feels, shoots and sounds like. My Egyptian maadi performed amazing, no jams and pretty accurate at a 100 yds out .

You maybe if your lucky can still find this gun for $500 but I highly doublt it, this is post Obama being elected and I live in Colorado where our 2nd amendment rights are in jeapardy. Prices for handguns, ammo and especially assault rifles have SKYROCKETED!!! If your paying less than .50 cents a round for tulammo you are getting a good deal. I bought mine for $850 for 2 30 round mags. This is 2013 and I haven't seen a cheap wasr built from a kit under $800 in months on the internetor gunshows. Sks can go up to $700 in Colorado which is insane! But I own two ak47's and I have plenty of mags and ammo just in case laws are passed, but anyone that wants a good ak, buy a Chinese or Egyptian if you don't want to deal with converting a saiga. I love my guns!

Being an FFL, I have a hard time buying anything over dealer cost. I used to have access to AKs like crazy prior to all of this craziness and I never really wanted one. Now that I have my stable full of ARs, I have been toying with getting an AK and looking at prices, I just shake my head. I refuse to pay over 5-550 tops for an AK. I guess I just dont want one bad enough. I will wait for my suppliers to start restocking.....
