We got our two ballots in the mail today, time to study the issues and VOTE!!
Our two votes for president -but- just as if not more important are all of the other races and issues. There are 20 races, Issues 1 and Issue 2 which is three whole columns top to bottom by itself plus 4 tax levies. There is no way anyone can just show up and figure everything out in just a few minutes without doing some homework ahead of time. I ALWAYS vote absentee from home, now in Ohio anyone can, it's so easy, no excuses not to vote. I even get to vote for Coroner who is unopposed...and my MD. , wife and I have known him since he was a hospital resident.Four legal size pages of what I consider my duty as a citizen. ![]()

I just received my kid's absentee ballots, wife and I just go down and vote on election day. Kids are away at school, in Texas and Fairbanks; so I guess I got to fill out and send to them on Monday.
Alaska always goes Repub, conservative area; though the oil money has made the state more socialistic than you'd think. State spends crazy amounts of money on everything you can imagine; mostly social programs; but we don't have any taxes, so I ain't complaining. Like when Palin started Denali Kid care, spends a bill/year to provide free health care for all Ak kids under 18. Actually it benefits everybody equally, and doesn't cost anybody anything. Ole Donny Young is on ballot once again, he'll be there until one of his half breed kids run in his place; then everybody will vote for his kids, even the Indians, ha ha. I see there's a constitutional convention vote. We must be behind the times on that one. Locally, all the small bush towns, 100-300 people, 200 miles apart have their own politics; conservative guy usually runs the town, owns the town; but they keep the taxes and everything else out. No law enforcement, no regulations, or all the controls that have ruined the lower 48. No joke, it's way better that way. |

Something else about constitutional conventions. The one on our ballot is state, not federal. Truthfully, most Alaskans don't trust our politicals who are bought and paid for by the oil industry when it comes to our God Given Rights that are now the law, no rewrites necessary. I can just imagine: Big Oil would have Alaskans paying them to get that dirty oil outta the ground rather than the other way around.

As important as the Presidential race this year, the Senate races are where we have to win big. If we control the House and the Senate, we can control the President. That is, if we get some hired hands in there with guts under their belts instead of pansies.

So today you got your ballots and decided to study the "issues". I imagine you are going to turn on the tv and watch some of the ads to see what the canadates stand for. Or perhaps you will watch a news show like MSNBC to see what the announcers say... You know, you can never be too careful when selecting the leader of the free world. Perhaps you were too occupied the past few years to notice our country being sold down the drain But you are right. This voting thing should really take more than a few moments of your time.. Holy cow, I don't think I can type enough sarcasim here. But wait, maybe you were being sarcastic and I missed it???? Am I that dense? Could someone really be a firearm owner and still not know that the Democratic Party is absoluetly poison for gun owners? Please tell me I'm missing something. Tell me you are kidding and I'm just dense. Sorry for the rant. Really. Both the wife and I ended up speaking to Democrats today who were going to vote for Obama. One cause she liked her free phone, the other cause Republicans want to take away her birth conrol (its for sale in every pharmacy and Walmart in the state) and two because "their parents were Democrats". Arrrghh. A gentlemen in Europe noted that "it is not because of Obama that America will fail. One person can not bring down a country. It is because of the millions of people in America who were dumb enough to vote for him, that America will fail. I pray for my grandchildren. forgive my rants, sometimes I hit my flll level....

jstgsn, there's no doubt who I'll be voting for and against in the major races--pres/vp, senator, representative; even some state level votes are easy--state senators and reps; governor, etc. But when it comes down to whether to retain state supreme court justices, and more local elections, that takes more research. If there are referendums, those need to be checked out too.
Anybody worth his citizenship and with an IQ greater than his shoe size would not take the mainstream media's word for anything, and ads are only soundbites, so at least for me, it takes a little more digging. That's my .02 worth. ![]() 0 and his lot must go. |

I'm not really thrilled with national politics now, way too much money required to run in the hundreds of millions raised and jamed down our throats. Plus big buck donaters want something in return! Maybe because I had several relatives and even neighbors in politics and I was really involved in many races in the 1970s and 1980s I have a different feel on the whole thing than many people...if you've been in it you know what I mean. The old phrase "All politics is local" is a bit true and the most important issues anyone can vote on are local issues. Well regardless of what you do please vote or like I say "If you don't vote you don't deserve the right to b1tch!". ![]() |
