IMHO nothing beats a knife made from a railroad spike. Those bad boys hold an edge and are tough.

Check out this website. I own three of his Damascus knives. They are pricey but well made and will hold an edge.

These three were made by Ray Rantanen. He makes mostly working knives. Damascus as well as regular steel.
