Default New pup today!

Just got home from picking up our new 9 week old German Shorthaired Pointer pup. Got to see them work his dad flush and retrieve a quail.

Finally, now two members of the family with intelligence. Your wife and the dog. Nice pup. It will be a hunting fool.

got to the kennel and saw the two pups that were available - a brother and sister. We had planned to get the girl, but watching them play and how needy and whinney the girl was, we decided to get the boy instead. He has better looking markings and is more laid back.

The dog is 9 weeks old, not leash trained, not house broken, and not crate trained. We put a loose slip on leash on him in the car as we left and had the crate open so he could explore it. He chose to sleep most of the way snuggled next to my daughter or in her lap - the leash never bothered him. We stopped halfway home to get gas and my daughter walked him on the leash to go potty - no problems! We praised him and the exit before we got off the interstate going home he got up and started scratching at the car window and whining. We pulled into a gas station and let him out on the grass and he immediately did his business!

He seems like a very smart dog and is eager to learn and please!

The dog has walked beside man for 50,000 years. Looking at a new puppie you can see why we love them so much.

House dog or huntin dog outside on a chain? WE've had coon hounds all our lives and last two Plotts have been inside dogs due to the cold weather up here. The one female sleeps between the wife and I on the bed, of course no fleas or bugs on dogs in Alaska.

Thanks all for the kind words! He's just a pet. Inside on the non-carpeted floors with us, sleep in a crate in the basement garage, and outside in a big wooded fenced yard when we're not home.

Ya, and I will bet your daughter hated that. I remember when my daughter got her first lab puppy, it was a 1 hour ride home. My daughter rode all the way home with the puppy in her lap. She was in heaven.

Get used to it. Remember, you sleep in the dog house most of the time so the pup gets the house.

Charlie. And we have two dog houses in the garage and two outside. The big ones for me and the smaller ones for the pup! Of course, if Jimboy ever came to visit, that gives me a big dog house for him too!

I've had two of them. Great dogs. Mine were very family orientated and did not really like strangers as my German Shepards helped raise them. They are very active, hardheaded, intelligent and have an incredible since of reasoning. Very nice looking pup, wish you lots of enjoyment.

He is sleeping all night now, mastered the doggie door to the screened porch, mastered the stairs (we have 3 flights of stairs), is fetching and sitting some, and is walking pretty well on the leash. He likes riding in the car and loves sleeping in everyone's lap!

He knows what "Go Potty" means and he will do so outside. He just turns right around and goes again inside! If we can break of him of that - we will be greatly relieved!

He comes when called and can be left alone for a few hours. You just have to remember to close the door to the toilet - he found a roll of toilet paper is just loads of fun!
