Welcome to TFF tieken. I have to agree with pickenup, I like others love 1911's like my Springfield 1911 A1 loaded. I also really like my Springfield XDM platform its all about what fits you.

We spent quite a bit of time talking and he has pretty redirected my focus on the 1911's. Looking for something as a home defense as well as going to the range for fun. I'm far from a rich man but I do believe in investing more up front in a purchase so I don't turn around and want to "upgrade" to something better in about 6 months. I guess what I hoping you all might be able to help me with is a couple of things: 1) Is the 1911 the best way to go for an all around firearm? (I kinda assume so and that's why I'm posting here). 2) Id really some assistance on selection. I have done some internet searching and have found some amazing guns (most of which are probably out of my reach) but I tossing around a couple and here is the short list...if you will. Kimber, Sig Sauer, Springfield armory loaded, or a para ordnance, but am willing to consider others that I may have overlooked. Id like to purchase a very reliable handgun that I can "grow" into and quality if of great importance to me. Thanks in advance for any help or information you may be able to share with me.
In my opinion the 1911 is the best all around gun. It was my first handgun 45 years ago. During that time I have tried just about every weapon out there and it just keeps coming back to the 1911.

My personal choice now is the Ruger SR1911, for practice I use a Colt Government Model .22 Cal LR, same size, close to the same heft.

In addition to my 2 SR 1911's I have 3 Springfield Armory 1911's, all .45's, all stainless, the Mil-Spec, a "Loaded Stainless", and a "Long Slide" 6 inch bull barrel.

I also own a 2nd practice gun wich is a Sig-Sauer 1911-22, nice gun, but I favor the Colt .22.
