The 1890 was discountiuned in 1932 at serial number 734454 ( per my source ), however clean up of parts on hand lasted over 8 years and added another 14 to 15 thousand guns. Appoxinly 849,ooo total guns were produced. I have no ideal why the math doesn't match.

Ron,
Thank you for responding! So it's fare to say 1932 or so manufacture date. I'm sure the depression years had something to do with this...thus being called the depression deer rifle! Respectfully, John Lane Last edited by Spudpilot; 11-11-2012 at 04:23 PM.. |

Hello John,
Per the original factory serialization records (in possession of the Cody Firearms Museum), production of the Model 1890 reached serial number 846022 on June 6th, 1932 (when regular production was ceased). From June of 1932 through November of 1949 parts clean-up production continued through serial number 854747 (the final serial number). Starting at serial number 713200, there are at least several thousand Model 06 parts clean-up rifles that were assembled using Model 90 serial numbers. Serial number 818804 was manufactured in October of 1929. While Ned Schwing's book on the .22 Slide-action rifles is a superb reference document, he for what-ever reason did not find all of the (later) production records. As a result, his book is in error concerning the late production Model 90 and 06 rifles. Bert H.

Bert,
I can't thank you enough for coming to the rescue!! Whats interesting is I have three 1890's and the early ones all have the serial numbers stamped in Italics, on this one there straight stamped numbers. Respectfully, John Lane (Airpower Unlimited, LLC.) Jerome, Idaho |
