starting to like the 1911 platform.

Let me start by saying I never understood what all the HOOPLA was about the 1911. the only experience I had had was in the Navy (45apc) and it was a piece of junk...wouldnt feed and hung up all the time. in short I ended up carring a Ruger 9mm that still didnt fit my hands. but at least it fed and shot anything we put through it. I became a fair shot with it.

now recently I bought a Llama 9mm based on the 1911 platform. was hesitant about it but it was what was in my budget for a concealed weapon, AND it fit my hand like it belonged there. after spending a week of taking it apart and learning about it, (and figuring out the one problem it had) I have become quite fond of it. its sweet to shoot, accurate and so far has ate anything I have offered it. when I bought it I picked up 300 rnds of steel cased ammo, (after all wasnt sure this was a pistol I was going to keep), it has functioned reliably with this corncob ammo and have switched to proper brass rounds.

I have become so fond of this pistol, I am now on the hunt for an newer version of the 9mm single stack Colt 1911. but knowing so little of them need a little help. the Llama is a full size pistol so thats what I am looking for,my hands while are of "ham" size have short "sasuages" for fingers. thats why the Rugers dont fit me well. the double stacks "twist" in my grip when fired.
so what Colts 1911's are single stack, 9mm, perferably used, and under $500?
where would I most likly find one? have searched 4 days now on internet and havent found one unless new at 800 or more. dont want a fancy model but a daily shooter. willing to look at other Brands as long as they are on the 1911 platform also.

so thanks to a pistol that is at least 38 yrs old and has been out of production for at least 20 yrs...I am finally starting to like the 1911 platform!

What's not to like about a 1911.......? Especially in .45.....

For you price range, you are almost going to have to get used. You can get a few of the springfield milspec guns for around 500 new. I would just call them plinkers and wouldnt want to carry them though. Your local gun stores and pawn shops may be the best place to start looking. Most all 1911's are going to be single stack, though I think some of the new polymer spinoffs(yuck) have started doing double stacks. Go to the stores and pick up a bunch of them. You can get a better idea on prices while you are fondling them too. Good luck.

For CC you might consider a Commander size.

You can probably find a rock island or Taurus 9mm for that money both good guns IMO

my next 1911 will be either .38 super or 10mm, don't forget to give those a whirl too!

the 1911 design is just hands down a cadillac to shoot no matter what flavor. The point perfectly unlike Glocks and are better balanced than most pistols.

for that price range, either used like said or you could probably get a RIA for around there.

for around 500 you have RIA, Citadel (both made by Armscor) ati (sam) I have RIA and a Citadel bothe great guns. If you can swing a extra 100 or so the STI spartan is my favorite. I have a spartan V in 9mm its more accurate than my $1200 springfield Randy

As you may already know, I am addicted to 1911s. In my opinion, there is no better design to modify and dress up and they can be very accurate guns too. I have 21 of them now and will continue to buy them. My plastic gun buying days are pretty much over (with the exception of wanting a FN 5.7) I only buy 1911s. I have my share of revolvers and plastic autos too, dont get me wrong, but every time I go out to shoot, I grab a hand full of 1911s and the rest just sit.

A real 1911 is a colt,all others are clones there of.
I had a polish Radom that worked like a charm just wasnt a pretty finish.
Just about every one makes one mostly due to popularity,all however are not equal regardless of how much they cost,as internal differences with some.Some have a half cock notch, some have a safety ledge.Almost all look like the 1911 to be called that.
A great many colt parts interchange with your Llama,not all but great many.
Ive got one none will but due to size ,caliber and blowback,still in the 1911 style.

I ccw this often as am built small like the gun.
S and B JHP 60 grain,1200 fps -205 fpe-dont need no shrunken 380 as this is more powerfull,yet would not mind adding a locked breech 380 to the collection,also small frame.

the problem with compacts is 1 1/2 of my fingers hang in empty air. its hard to shoot with only a finger and a half actually holding the gun!

I tried shooting a range rental Walther PPK/S .380 ACP yesterday. The DA/SA trigger is a little odd, and I thought it had a nice SA trigger, but to be honest, I still think my 1911 is more comfortable to shoot. The grip tang on that PPK/S really bites into my hand and my pinky was hanging off the bottom of the grip unless I was using the magazine with the bumper pad on on it. I think the trigger and comfort are why I keep coming back to the 1911. Plus the customization options of the 1911 are near endless. For a smaller 1911, I would look at a 4 1/2", 4", or 3 1/2" one. Awhile back I used to shoot a lot with a I guy I used to work with that had an ORM Colt M1991A1 Officer's and the thing fit my hand like a glove and always shot where I was aiming.

I have the Springfield Loaded in .45. I know Springfield Armory makes 9mm 1911s, but they're gonna cost you more than your price range, so I second the recommendation of the RIA or the STI Spartan. I had an RIA a couple years back and it was a good, reliable gun.

It's the best bang for the buck in todays 1911 market.
