Mike, are you looking surplus o.e.? which type by the way Type 59/66 type 45 type 56 or type 63? Numrich has the bolt (stripped) and a pin currently in stock , $34 and $21, but you will need the firing pin retainer as well $7 there are other on line places as well

You know you might be right
All I have been working on is the bolt and what he said I havent had the gun in my hands.
It's my friends gun so he just sent the bolt.
I called him and told him to send pic.
I need to see the gun.
He just sent a pic to show me the numbers
I think he could have a AK not a SKS.
He sent this.
I Need to see more.
Now if I can get this from a e-mail to here.
Mike

I think this is a AK!
Good call zant !

Yes, Mike, Its an AK type 84S chambered in 5.56X45.. or 5.56 NATO... or .223, call the round what ever you will!.. But its an AK none the less... you have a picture of the L/H side of the receiver! (or the side opposite the ejection port)

Sadly, I wanted to originally ask you if it was a drop breach lock or a rotary lock type bolt... but I figured you knew what you had.... oops! take a vacation Mike! Sounds like you need it!

I should have known.
Just reading what he wrote and not thinking when I saw what was wrong with the bolt I just put it down and went on to the next thing and well
I screwed up is all I can say.

Question Re: Norinko SKS

Now that I know what I have
I have a question.
As you can tell I am not that familiar with these guns.
So here is the question.
This AK needs a new bolt so far all I can find is a bolt with the floating firing pin style the one I have is the spring loaded style.
Are they interchangeable? can I use the floating pin style in this gun?instead of the spring loaded style.
Mike

Mike, I'm not 100%, but with the SKS... The "spring" firing pins vs. the "floating" firing pins, was an after thought, the spring style was to prevent "slam fires". The SKS bolt and firing pins were tapered, and some times the firing pin got "stuck" protruding past the bolt face causing.... Barrrrrrrp!
I would ASSUME the AK has the same thinking!
Also.... The spring and floating for the most part are interchangeable on the SKS... I'm sure there is an exception somewhere.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Mike, I did a little digging, and yes... the "spring loaded" bolt assemblies are "interchangeable" or "good idea" replacements (head space fit / check required) and came about because the softer primers on the non mil-surp type of ammo. So, change bolts (fit and check), and fire away!

I'm confused, are we talking AK or SKS. The SKS has been around for a very long time, long before the invention of the 5.56X45 caliber round. Not only that but to my knowledge the SKS was manufactured only in 7.62X39, as was the AK47. Even when the Russians downsized the caliber in the AK74, they went with their own unique 5.45X39 rather than 5.56X45.

Might you be dealing with a Saiga? That's an AK style rifle that is available in several calibers including the 5.56X45/.223.

Oh crap, I'm sorry, didn't look closely enough at the picture. I'm really baffled now. I never knew Norinco chambered anything in 5.56X45. Maybe it is an aftermarket conversion.
