Default need help with cleaning a gun

i bought the Remington fast snap cleaning kit. now im not used to this style of patch puller. the kind im used to has a big rubber washer to old the patch against the barrel. these are just a piece with a slot in it. how does that hold a patch against the barrel of a 12 gauge? maybe im not putting it in right

It doesn't really. It's more like a swab than a jag. Use the largest patch you can and soak it and run it through then run dry ones down after it.

not really sure what you mean.
i buy a brush to fit each guage, then i make my own swab
i buy a string mop and take enough strands(we will just say 6) and center a string in the strands. tie a knot, that folds the strands in half ,or doubles the diameter. i use a lead sinker to drop the line through the barrel then add your chemical and pull through

If I were to guess hillbilly, I would say that he's talking about the tip that looks like the one in this kit. https://www.deweyrods.com/cart/index...product_id=515

Something like one of these work better than the 'loop'.

I don't know why they bother putting the 'loop'
in a kit for a shotgun.
I too put a piece of cotton material in it....
but it still is too small to get much material in it
to do the job worth a hoot.

Won't the tip from your old kit fit the new cleaning rod?
Shotguns are better with a bore snake.....
bought or homemade.
For brushes, I use a tornado.

I also usually finish up with a piece of leather
[elk/deerskin] with a boot lace tied to it
and pull it thru for the final pass.

do u guys use the kits with a cleaning rod or a cable? i was alyas told with the rods u had to be realy careful because if u rub the muzzle u can mark it up and mess up the trajectory. plus if u cant take barrel off u push all the dirt into the action. i like the ones with the plastic coated cables

If the bore[smooth] is really dirty, and needs a brush,
that's what I use to get the funk.
Then a piece of cotton t-shirt on a string, solvent if needed.
Then the leather.

If you cut a round piece of leather [and try also with cloth]
and put a hole in the middle, run a boot lace thru the hole,
and tie it to a small bead...or button....anything that will
keep the boot string from pulling thru the leather.
But you get the picture....and there are other ways to fasten
it......just experiment.

I still prefer one homemade.
And yes, pull towards the muzzle.

I use my Tornado brush with a patch or two wrapped around it soaked in solvent. I can't stand the slotted patch pullers, they do nothing for me.
