Have I got a deal for somebody who has gold. I'll trade 1 of my several thousand trees for it's weight in gold, pound for pound. I don't need gold but firewood or building material might be desired by somebody who needs shelter and heat and has nothing but gold to trade.

Id kinda agree with the "odd things to invest in" I have ammo in all sorts of calibers... Ill trade a few rounds of 123 or 456 caliber for food (veggies), wood, water,... safety! If you have popular calibers to "trade or barter" with.. every one will need ammo for their gun at some point...

I heard an interesting idea on the radio a few nights back. Eliminate the debt ceiling, it's an arbitrary number no one pays any attention to. Every year lately Congress assembles to raise the debt ceiling, with all the lying, political posturing and grandstanding associated with it. Without the debt ceiling, there is one less issue for both sides to acccuse the other side of wanton spending, or not caring for the well being of the nation. To put it simple terms, one less play in the theater of bad acting that we affectionately refer to as our government.

All my life I have tried to keep a positive outlook. I know things look pretty bad right now. I still believe in this country and I hope we will get it right in the end.

I believe deeply in what this country was meant to be, and came very close to being for a very long time. But painfully I must admit that we are done for. Democracies always self-destruct when the non-productive majority realizes that it can vote itself handouts from the productive minority by electing the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury. To maintain their power, these candidates must adopt an ever-increasing tax and spend policy to satisfy the ever-increasing desires of the majority. So as taxes increase, incentive to produce decreases, causing many of the once productive to drop out and join the non-productive. When there are no longer enough producers to fund the legitimate functions of government and the socialist programs, the democracy will collapse.
