My girlfriend and I were watching this game too and heard that claim that he made. We both looked at each other and were like "really?" Its funny someone would go out on a limb like that and say that it wouldnt have happened had he not owned a gun. I'm glad others heard him say that too and feel the same way.

What are we supposed to use if we ban all guns, water pistols? The guy is off his rocker, I hope there are repercussions.

And another Barack Obama puppet moves its lips and comes out with the leftwing Democratic Party line. What else is new?

What is interesting is the blatant racism and anti-black views inherent in the attitude that "us superior whites should not allow those inferior black people to have guns."

Better yet...write to the sponsors of the NFL on NBC and tell them your feelings. If they get enough complaints, they'll go to NBC and start either pulling the advertising money or get Costas canned.

I actually agree with one of his statements: "Handguns do not enhance our safety". However, a 12 gauge does.

So, in the interest of public safety, I hereby endorse the open carry of 12 gauge shotguns (pick your fav, I'm partial to this one

).

that's a favorite of mine also! I've got mine decked out with about 30 rounds attached to it and its sling plus a tac light. If everyone packed one of those we would live in the most honest place on the planet...

Default Costa's Rant .......

You want some actual perspective on this? Well a bit of it comes from the Kansas City-based writer Jason Whitlock, with whom I do not always agree but who today, said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article. "Our current gun culture," Whitlock wrote, "ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead. Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. In the coming days, Jovan Belcher's actions, and its possible connection to football, will be analyzed. Who knows? But here is what I believe, If Jovan Belcher didn't possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today."

An apropos snippet from the NRA today:

Only a media elitist, living a cloistered life inside the NBC newsroom, could let loose with such a woefully ignorant, ill-timed and irresponsible statement. Furthermore, the fact that Costas tried to partially hide behind a fellow journalist (Costas referenced sportswriter Jason Whitlock) borders on cowardice.

According to criminologist Gary Kleck, 2.5 million Americans use firearms to defend their lives and the lives of their loved ones each year. The obvious truth is that if Bob Costas and his gun-ban buddies at NBC had their way, many of these innocent men and women would not be alive today.

Seemingly, Costas has absolutely no knowledge of the fact that good men and women — and oftentimes, the physically weakest among us — rely on firearms as the only reasonable means of protecting themselves from would-be murderers, rapists and thugs.

Take the case of the elderly woman in Sarasota, Florida, who, earlier this year, used a handgun to fend off an attacker who broke through her kitchen window. "I was fearful of my life," the grandmother tearfully told a 911 operator after she fired two shots at the intruder, causing him to flee.

Or the case of a young Oklahoma mother, who used a firearm to successfully defend herself and her three-month-old baby this past New Year's Eve from a man armed with a 12-inch hunting knife who kicked in her door and came straight for her and her child.

On the other hand, consider the tragic reality of Bob Costas' and Jason Whitlock's gun-ban utopia.

In 2007, Amanda Collins was a student at the University of Nevada, Reno. Although she possessed a legal permit to carry a handgun, the university prohibited her from doing so on campus property.

Late one night, after taking a mid-term exam, Collins was attacked and brutally raped in a campus parking garage located just 100 yards from a police station. And although she escaped with her life that night, another young woman abducted near the same campus would not be so lucky.

Brianna Denison had been staying with a friend during winter break when she went missing in the middle of the night. After a frantic, four-week search, authorities finally found Brianna’s naked, frozen body, crudely hidden underneath a discarded Christmas tree. She had been kidnapped, raped and strangled to death — savaged by the same monster who attacked Amanda in the parking garage just a few months earlier.

As is often the case with media talking heads, it’s doubtful that Bob Costas has any real understanding of the recklessness of his statements. However, ignorance is never a good excuse, and that’s especially true for someone like Bob Costas, who prides himself on being a responsible journalist.

Bob Costas offended millions of law-abiding, gun-owning football fans with his gun-ban rant. He not only owes every one of us an apology, but also a promise that, in the future, he’ll stick to doing what he’s paid very well to do: talk about sports.

Default Backpedal Bob

Communicating through a spokesman today about comments made on air about guns Sunday night " feels an unfortunate leap was taken that he was advocating taking away second amendment rights...He was not .. ( really ) not what I heard .....

Monday, NBC spokesman Hughes added that Costas is in favor of people owning guns to hunt and carry them reasonably .....Again Really not what I heard !

A bit too much pressure Mr Costas ? You can't speak for yourself ? You had no problem on Sunday Night football in front of millions .... During halftime ...

Amazing what people say when they should just stick to the job at hand . FOOTBALL MR COSTAS ! Personally you should be terminated. People have been fired in your line of work for much less. In any case in my book your done.

I agree 100% ! Look what happened to MNF and Hank; I highly doubt that it will end up with the same result when the shoe is on the other foot though. NBC and Costas can kiss it, I won't watch another game on NBC. I can get the updates online.

I will keep my ability to defend myself and my family. I will NEVER stand by and watch me sister, or my mother, or my wife be raped in my own home because they have a firearm and I don't.

I didn't take a whole lot of time to put together my message to NBC, it's more of a rant, but they need to hear as much as possible. Here's what I sent even though it will most likely fall on deaf ears.

Is your broadcast meant to be about sports or a soapbox for a brainwashed idiot? Does Bob Costas really think that if there were no guns in the world that the murder of Kasandra Perkins would not have happened? Taking away guns does NOT solve anything; dealing with criminals and stopping the slaps on the wrists will help to eliminate crime. Should Costas not also be saying "take away all bows and arrows", because the professor in WY would not have lost his life. I am boycotting NBC and it's affiliates for 90 days, maybe more, I probably won't miss much anyways.
Only way I will change my mind is to have Costas apologize for airing personal views. He doesn't have to admit his ignorance or lack of common sense, just a simple apology for hopping on his soapbox at a most inappropriate time. I would encourage him to do some actual research and ask himself, if there is a violent criminal inside my home; who am I going to rely on most, the .357 that is 20" away from my side or the police who are 8 minutes away??

Adult beverage, writing NBC, ABC, and CBS = a great wast of your time.

Agreed, fortunately; I didn't waste much time and it makes the adult beverage taste a little better afterwards.

So I switch back to the half time show in time to listen to some dork telling me it was the hand gun's fault that the Chief’s player killed his girlfriend and how we would all be safer without guns, and how “his girlfriend and he” would still be alive if we didn’t have guns.
My first impulse is to run around yelling and kicking things, yelling to explain that before guns they used knives and swords, bows and arrows, fire (where they usually kill the intended and everyone else in the apartment building), rope, rocks, slings, snakes, and in one James Bond movie, gold paint, not to mention cars, trucks, trains (tied up on the tracks), and airplanes (9-11).
Never in my life have I ever encountered more stupid people than I encounter in my daily travels.
So, instead of continuing a full blown rant, let ask my friend in the firearms forum their suggestion. Should I write to NBC? Should I just shut up and have an adult beverage? Should I continue to stockpile supplies?

My wife tells me I can’t fix stupid. My mind tells me to ignore what I can’t control. My instinct tells me to keep my powder dry and take cover.
I am starting to hope the Mayans were right.

What say ye?

That's why you've got to contact those that they will listen to - the advertisers that spend their money with them.

I just saw on the evening news where Bob Costas is back peddling on his statements due to an overwhelming amount of complaints about them.

Bull Sh**.... He said what he meant, but now he's reaping his rewards for it..
