Advice on RCBS - The Firearms Forum

PLEASE DO NOT DISCUSS ANY OTHER BRAND OF RELOADING PRESS ON THIS THREAD

I want to know if anybody has any experience with the these two RCBS Progressive presses. I don't want to hear about Dillon, or Lee. Right now I am researching RCBS. Thanks guys.

I had a pro 2000. All I ever got done was working on it. After 2 years my wife made me buy the blue one. I don't have one good thing to say about it!! I would not even sell it, I gave it to a guy for free and told him the problems that I had with it. I added the auto indexing and it would splash powder out of the case, priming problems also. I could go on but you get the picture!

Cutter, you just aswered my question and your answer saved me a lot of grief. The only problem I have is the Dillon is pricey, but I quess I will start saving my pennies.

Wow. Looking at the price of the RCBS and the price Grafs has for a Dillon XL650, I'd go with the Dillon.

I also checked out the RCBS before the buying the LNL. Price was an issue, but the real decider was talking to a guy that had the RCBS. He had used the press for over a year and finally gave up and got the LNL.

He had many of the problems with the RCBS that I am having with the LNL. I'm not ready to give up on the LNL just yet, but getting close. I'm still having indexing problems after getting a new press from Hornady. I thought they had been resolved, but they have returned.

There is something in the auto index function that does not work right. The shell plate is about 1/16" off after each full stroke. That is just enough to cause the case to hit the side of the sizing die and prevent the primer from being seated. I can adjust the pawls, but they do not stay adjusted. It may be that the indexing pawls or indexing rotor wears just enough to prevent prefect alinement - not sure, but what ever it is causes a lot of frustration.

I bought the Dillon 650 and have 0 problems!!! Just lots of loaded ammo!!! Any Dillon is great!!! Price is high but so is my time, YOU do get what you pay for!!! Good luck on which one you decide on!

Just for the record...my pro 2000 was more like a ro 000

Quit buying all the other things......outfits, dolls, etc and put the $$$$$
towards a 'blue'.

The only decent RCBS press is the Rockchucker IMO. Buy a Dillon. I have two and they're the best, bar none.

...after owning the competitor presses , I can say the Dillon just WORKS....

don't waste your time and money and don't tear your hair out, ... buy the Dillon....

OK, here's the deal. First of all, I broke my own rule and brought up Dillon so ozo, thanks for rubbing it in.

Then, secondly my Hornady is great when it works. However when it goes out of timing and when the primer shuttle begins hanging up that is when I about lose my patience. I finally got it dialed in. What ticks me off is when I am cruising along and I begin smashing brass into the resizer die, and then the bullet, after it is seated in the cartridge hits the LFC die and the C.O.L. is reduced because the bullet gets pushed further into the brass, and then all of a sudden the primer shuttle sticks and when I go to fix it it clicks into the load position and flips a primer across the garage. Sheesh, it makes me want to kick ozo in the butt, that's for sure.

I looked into the Dillon but right now I don't want to let the cash go. I agree the Dillon is the best. I was wondering about the RCBS Progressive because I know where one is at for cheap but I believe that will have just as many problems. I finally got it dialed in and I cranked out 100 rounds after work today so all is good.

When my home is paid off I will be hooking into a Dillon. Until then I will just cass ozo out and continue to keep my Hornady in time and I always have two single stage presses that never let me down so they are my backup presses.

Now for my next invention. I am going to devise a cartridge that will shoot a rubber bullet from here to ozo's house so I can bean him in the butt. The rubber bullet will be imbedded with a tech-no chip that will enable ozo's awesome wife to snap a picture of ozo's face just as it hits him in the rear.

Yes, all Dillons except for the square deal b. Lee dies are a little short but can be made to work most of the time.

I use several [pistol] mfg dies on a 550B
and they work fine. Lee, RCBS, Hornady.

The Dillon dies are pricey....but are nice.
They easily dis-assemble for cleaning.

Don't mean to be out of line with this question. Is the 550 ok for the loading of rifle loads? I mean with the extra steps on preparing the cases with length and cleaning primer pockets and all?
