Hi wordofthewise.......welcome to TFF.

The Stevens Arms & Tool Company made a great many single-shot rifles, ranging from cheap to very expen$ive, most available in .25 cal., and all looking very much like this:

http://www.savagearms.com/30g.htm

Soooooo......to narrow this down some, please answer the following questions:

.25 rimfire or centerfire?

All of the writing and numbers on it, exactly as it's written?

Barrel length?

Is the barrel entirely round, or part round and part octagon?

Buttstock....crescent, curved, or straight?

Type of sights? Open sights or flip-up peepsight on the stock tang? Or both?

Is the Patent Date really 1794 or is it 1894?

It would very helpful to see a picture of this rifle. Depending on model & condition, it's value could range (in V.G. condition) from $150 to many thousands of dollars.

Try to visualise the action, as you open it, looking at the breechblock. Does it immediately tip back, a lot, or does it fall, in a raceway, after tipping back, just a bit?
The difference is about 700 dollars, American.
If the breechblock falls in a raceway, a true falling block, you have a 44 1/2 Stevens, a very desrable rifle, in ANY caliber.
If, on the other hand, the breechblock simply rolls away from the barrel, it is a model 44, a "favorite", or other lesser rifle.
A pic would sure help!
