Smile Re: Ruger Dearstalker & Deerfield carbine

the deerstalker was the first design 44magnum carbine by ruger, ruger was sued by ithaca shotguns over the similarity of the name. ithaca had the deerslayer shotgun. ithaca won the lawsuit and ruger dropped the deerstalker after only approx 3,750 units. (1961-1962) later units were just called model 44 carbine. the later ones were manufactured until 1985. the deerfield is the latest version and is made like the mini-14 style rifle. the first design deerstalker had an enclosed bolt and a 4 shot tubular mag, the later model deerfield has a drop magazine like the 10-22. in my opinion the earlier designs were the better of the lot, and are worth more money on sale or purchase. if you want a 44mag carbine check out the mech-tech conversion carbines that uses a 1911 pistol lower frame to make it work, they are a blast. just my 2 cents worth.
