For a VietNam vet to be married to the same woman for 33 years, speaks for a marriage that's doing just fine, thank you. She goes to the range with me, and shoots or reads. She doesn't want her own 'cause I help with the dishes after I eat, and I grill most of the meat we eat, and she has to clean her own guns. So she gave 'em all to me.
Both of 'em.Sell your motorcycle, to pay your tuition, keep your guns, become President, and make the 2nd Amendment un-alterable. At that point in time, I will give you an M12. You may NOT become President, but if you do, either me or my son WILL have an M12 to give you. Just remember me when you get in the White House. Don't push it, or I'll withdraw my offer ![]()

Well now, to tell ya the truth, you can even ask bubba. When I was out at the range, the wind was a howlin crosswise bout 80-90 miles an hour. The rain was so heavy that I could hardly even see the target. Water was runnin across my face like a river. Thought I was gonna drown. The rain was blowin in one ear and right out the other, it was blowin so hard. The earthquake didn’t help either. But I still kept most all of em in the bullzeye and managed to shoot a score of........
Oh wait, were supposed to save the storytelling until AFTER we go to the range. Sorry So I take it that besides the “other” match, we are having a iron sights match also. Good idea. I printed the rifle targets that were suggested here. It will be 5 shots at 25 yards, and 5 shots at 50 yards. Best 3 targets from “each” distance for score. Rifle only. If this is not right let me know. When does this contest end? Almost forgot, any shooting position? Prone, bags, offhand?

Greetings pickenup. We're not at all trying to compete with the "other" match. But I think iron sights are fun, and we're just gonna play a bit. By all means join us. I think it's gonna be fun. As far as I'm concerned, this "contest" should go on and on. I don't think iron sights will disappear, and basics should be visited by everyone. Shoot from any position you like. I think the best of three targets was discussed earlier, but that's no big deal. When you improve your shooting, post the target. I don't shoot prone much anymore. The other shooters keep waking me up.

Don't worry Jay, I'm goin straight to the top and I won't forget ya!
Iron sights definitely rule if you know how to use them. Scopes are great if you have to shoot something at 50 yards. If you have it clicked in at 50 yards. And unless you've memorized the drop rate of your round (inches/100yards or whatever) which is not a linear path (and many rise after they first exit the muzzle), you're out of luck unless you're shootin at something bigger than a bird. Iron sights, of course, are easily adjustable to your yardage (well, the good ones are) and I don't give a hoot of respect to anyone who can't pick off bottles at 30/40 yards without a scope, standing. Maybe I'll be shocked and the weather will be clear right over Brunswick this weekend and I'll go shootin. Send sun _z |

Nice shootin Jay!
I think it'd be best if we all did it like this, eh? Just post the 4 targets at 2 diff ranges. I got my 3-dots pretty well in this weekend, well enough to hit a squirrel at 25 yds. Hope to get out next weekend. Dang weather _z |

I'd like to join but it will be this weekend before I get a chance. If I can remember how to work the scanner. Opens sights just dont look the same as they did 20 years ago but I like using them sometimes.

Thought I had lost the target.
CZ-451 Factory Sights 50 yards. 5 shot groups I cheated and colored in the inner circle so I could see it...didnt help much. Golden Bullets are Remington el-cheapos bulk pack of 550. My wife got them for a Christmas present. |

I knew there was a reason I didn't shoot open sighted, and today I realized what it was: I suck at it. I mean really really bad.
Today I got out finally, and I'm a good shooter (prob not great, but good), but my front sight was the width of 2 of those targets at 50 yards, so forget it!!! I tried prone at 25, because I didn't want to drag the stump all the way over (it's big, it's my shooting "rest"), but that didn't go very well. I stood at 15 as that's my usual critter distance and I did ok, but didn't shoot very carefully I was impatient by then. I can keep it within an inch from there though, if I really go for it. I got two within the (1-inch) x-ring each of the 3 targets I shot. Hey, not terrible right? Good enough for treerats. I'll post those pics once I get a chance. I'm tapping my receiver and putting in my weaver rails (Weaver 61M fits Romanian M69 well enough, it's got a plain flat bottom) so I can be sure of my scope, then maybe if I get any time I'll make that stock. More later _z |

Just looked at kep's again, nice shootin man. Esp at 25.
Yeah something tells me my factory sights are more designed for shooting humans (training anyhow) than 4" targets. You'll be putting me in a distant 3rd for 25 before too long. I mean distant. I gotta get a scanner! _z |

Thanks fellas. Thats the first time I've shot with open sights in a while...a long while. For some reason the eyes just don't focus like they used to...I keep hearing a nasty rumer that I'm getting old. Or as my loving daughter says...old and decrepit! HAAA
I'll keep practicing tho. Its kinda fun shooting at something that you cant see but know where it is. ![]() |

I won't get to shoot till Wed, but I've been squintin' like hell all weekend, gettin' ready for the peep sights.
The new M12 is ready, I don't know yet if I am or not. Jay Wouldn't ya think there would be more than three or four of us having fun doing this?? ![]()
