JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi congressman says Rep. Charles Rangel of New York owes the Southern state an apology, and he asks if insults are what Mississippi should expect when Democrats take over leadership in Congress.
Rangel, a Democrat, was quoted in The New York Times on Thursday saying: "Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" Who the hell wants to live in NY?????? http://apnews.myway.com/article/20061110/D8LA8EHO0.html

It is interesting that the South was thought of as a major stronghold of the Democratic party while I was growing up, while the NorthEast was staunchly Republican "bluebloods."
As the Democrats drifted (and then ran) away from their traditional ideals, and the Republicans began to realize that "commoners" vote, things have turned around abit. Pops |

I grew up in New York, but today if I had to choose one or the other, Mississippi here I come....
The BAD thing is Charlie Rangel thinks the same thing about upstate NEW YORK as he does Mississippi... There's a HELLUVA lot of good people in New York that would find they had a LOT more in common with people from Mississipi than the millions of people who live south and east of White Plains....

This reminds me of a similar insult that occurred shortly after Waco.
A junior representative from Indiana said [more-or-less], "The only offense they could show was consentual sex with a minor. That happens all the time in Kentucky and we don't send tanks in there." ![]()
