I am new to the AR15, but would like to build my own to save $$. All I want is a shortie carbine with a 16" bbl and collapsible stock. Do I need a pre-ban lower to accomodate the folding stock? Pretty sure I do, as lame as that is. Anyway, what's the cheapest way to get there?

Buy a complete rifle, the lower (preban) will cost you just a few hundred less than a complete rifle. Welcome too! LTS

Thanks. So, what's a reasonable price for a complete gun? I see them all the time in the paper for around $1500, but I could buy all the components and build a post-ban for under $500. Not willing to pay triple just to get the collapsable stock.
