Default ARMY RANGERS

Last Thursday I was one of three guests of the 6th Ranger Battalion,
Camp James E. Rudder, Eglin Air Force Base.
We received an update briefing and tour by the Battalion Commander and his Command Sergeant Major.
The CSM related to us the following incident that occurred to one of his E-7 Ranger Instructors (RI).

Saturday afternoon the RI, in civilian clothes, stopped at a convenience store
in Fort Walton Beach that shared a parking lot with a K-Mart.
As he came out with his purchase three Economic Opportunists jumped him.
One struck him in the back and side of the face with a length of 2x4 plank.
The guy with the plank fell almost immediately to the ground,
having acquired before he got there a broken back, neck and skull fracture.
The other two participants were seen by several onlookers
to immediately depart in pursuit of the sound barrier

The first attacker is currently in hospital in a medically induced coma.
There were sufficient witnesses that the soldier was released after deputies took his statement
He was back for duty bright and (very) early Monday morning with hardly a sign of damage.

A reporter asked the sheriff about the incident and was allegedly told

“I’ve told ‘em before not to **** with the Rangers…”......

Or with anyone else who's had proper training, Al. Punks are punks, and when they make the mistake of picking the wrong target, for some reason, I have a tendency to smile.
