POW-MIA's; how late were they alive and being held against their will? - The Firearms Forum

I'm very curious about everyone's opinion concerning the fate of Vietnam War's POW-MIA's. I remember watching a documentary (Bo Gritz was in it as I recall) in the mid 1980's that claimed that the North Vietnamese, Khmer Rouge, VC, et al, were holding American POW's as late as the early 1980's, and that Reagan contemplated sending in rescue teams to pluck them out, but the plans were aborted for some reason.

Here are my questions:

- How many were being held in total?
- How late do you think that they were they being actively held? What year?
- Who had authority over them? Who was running the POW show from the Vietnam side?
- What happened to all those who were held after the war was over?
- Do you suppose any are alive there today, somewhere in Vietnam or Laos?

Very sad story that makes me mad every time I think about it.

I can't answer your question but I know why they were there.

Komrade Kissinger refused to negotiate with anyone but North Vietnam for the release of American POW's.

All those men held in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, et al were ignored and left to their fate.

Peace with honor my hind end. Kissinger should be put against a wall and all surviving Viet Vets should get to take a shot or two at him.

I still wear a POW/MIA Bracelet, it's a damn shame if you ask me, no US soldier should ever ever be left

I've gotta tell you, with all of the former Viet Nam Vets that prowl the hallowed halls of this forum, I'm shocked and disappointed that more of you haven't chimed in on the POW subject.

I'd really like to know that answers to these questions. Have I asked questions that are beyond the experiencial or speculative capabilities of this crew? I don't think so.
