Default Camp Patriot

My son received the following email from his college VA coordinator.

Quote:
Sir or Mam:

My name is Chase Savage. I am a combat veteran who lost his right arm while serving my country in Iraq. You may be wondering why you are receiving an email from a Marine that you do not know. Let me explain.

I am writing you on behalf of Camp Patriot , an organization that will help America 's wounded warriors return to some type of normal life. This is a non profit organization that puts wounded soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen back in the outdoors as a means of occupational therapy. Camp Patriot will allow America 's service men and women a chance to experience the outdoors through hiking, hunting, fishing and a host of other outdoor activities.

Camp Patriot is the brain child of Micah Clark and his father Bill and plans to build a 30,000 square foot lodge in the heart of Montana to facilitate the rehabilitation of these wounded warriors. The Clarks have put much work into this project, but they need our help to continue making dreams come true. As I said earlier, Camp Patriot is a completely non-profit organization and in this day and age even dreams cost money. Presently the Clarks are trying to raise enough money to see this project through..

The Clarks have been fortunate enough to receive the donation of a one hundred and fifty thousand dollar log cabin which they are offering to raffle in order to earn the funds to build Camp Patriot . Raffle tickets for the cabin will be priced at twenty dollars per ticket and individuals may purchase an unlimited number of tickets. I would ask you to consider purchasing a few tickets to help wounded service members like me.

To purchase tickets or to donate directly you can go to http://www.camppatriot.org . You may also reach Bill Clark directly by calling (509)-863-4702 or emailing him at npdwa@yahoo.com

I sincerely thank you for your time and urge you to consider a donation to this organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of America 's wounded service members. I also ask that you help me help Camp Patriot by passing this email around the country.

Sincerely,

Chase Savage

Thank you Ginga...Sounds like a very worthy cause.

Sounds like a worthy cause, SoMo, assuming it is not a scam. Sorry to sound like such a cynic, but e-mail mass mailings asking for money always raise the hackles on the back of my neck.

Me too, pistol. I would think email as a scam. Hope I'm wrong.

It is indeed prudent to be cautious. There are some of the most noteworthy charity groups in existance, who solicit all the time, and actually turn pennies on the dollar to the groups they are requesting for. I have often mentioned to you about Ms. Jan Johnson here in Glendale Arizona and her organization. Strictly books, both paper backs and hard cover, magazines, phamplets, brochures (even advertising like for auto and trucks) she sends to the troops at overseas military addresses. I see her often at the stores gleaning books from distributors and publishers---any time I can, I slip her whatever I can afford to help defray the mailing costs...She is a retired school teacher and used to be a plumbing customer of mine so I know her quite well. I vaguely remember hearing about this a year or two ago.

Nice Idea but I'm leery of it.
